Lessons from 84 Successful Job Seekers

By Soozy G. Miller, CPRW, CDCC, CDP

Several months ago, two executive clients emailed me within the same week with good news: they had landed new jobs. Both had experienced frustrating searches before we spoke. Within weeks of our conversations, they were moving on to their next roles.

Their messages made me curious. Clients don’t always tell me where they land, so I looked back at my 2025 client outcomes.

I found 84 clients who had landed a new role within four months. They ranged from high school graduates to CEOs. Some needed a quick resume update. Others benefited from a single 30-minute conversation or a deeper reworking of how they communicated their value.

The common thread wasn’t the amount of support they needed. It was finding a clearer way to show employers what they could contribute.

What getting unstuck can look like

Over 12 years of this work, a few client stories have stayed with me:

  • An executive chef changed jobs within weeks during COVID, when the service industry was largely shut down, after we defined his value proposition.

  • A chief manufacturing officer went from dealing with a difficult new boss to landing a great new role in two weeks, using more engaging outreach messages.

  • A professor went from being overlooked to heading a department after we clarified her accomplishments.

  • A department head physician went from no prospects to receiving an interview invitation within four minutes of applying after we improved his resume.

Different careers. Different challenges. The same underlying lesson: employers need to understand the value you bring.

A stalled search doesn’t have to stay stalled.

If your job search has stalled, there’s real reason for hope.

AI can help with parts of the process, but it can’t replace understanding an employer’s needs and showing how you can meet them. Your resume, outreach, and interview answers need to connect your experience to the impact and results the company is looking for.

That clarity matters when you’re navigating:

  • Applications screened out before you reach a person

  • AI interviews

  • Ghost jobs

  • Recruiters who disappear

  • Dozens of applications with no interviews

You can’t control every part of the hiring process. But you can strengthen the way you present your experience, explain your results, and approach the right opportunities.

In 12 years, I’ve seen this again and again: feeling stuck doesn’t have to be permanent. Sometimes a focused change is what helps a search move forward.

Better job. More pay. More control.
