The Tale of a Stressed Job Hunter

BySoozy G. Miller, CPRW, CDCC, CDP

In 2025 I worked with a Chief Operations Officer.

She was a $700K salary kind of executive. Very talented.  A natural leader.

Her resume was jam-packed full of accomplishments in all parts of business.

When we started working together, she told me, “I’m a Jack of all trades. I have done and can do anything.” Her only objective in finding a job was to make as much money as possible in as short a time as possible. This is not a very inspirational goal, but I’m here to help.

She told me that she was going on vacation soon, to an exotic location. There would be no phones or internet where she was going.

So, her plan was to apply to 5 companies on LinkedIn, go away on vacation, and when she came back she expected that there would be 3-4 job offers waiting for her in her email. She didn’t expect all 5 to have positions, but she was sure that at least 3 would.

She applied to all 5, and within seconds was rejected for all 5.

Then she did what a lot of normal, stressed adults do. She panicked. When she still had a few days before she was going away, she quadrupled down. She started to do what recruiters call Spray & Pray. She mass applied everywhere. Click, click, click, click click... She uploaded her resume to every possible position and mass emailed her resume to dozens of recruiters.

Hundreds of these. She was beside herself. She left for vacation very sad and even more stressed.

When she came back from vacation we met once or twice to review her situation. I offered more help by suggesting a better job search methodology. But she was not happy. Then I did not hear from her for a few months.

When she reconnected with me, she said that she had been in the job search for a while months without any offers and barely any interviews, even though I had tried to help her with her resume and her job search.

This is a cautionary tale. I do not want you to have to go through what she went through. Even if you are not an executive, the above stress is completely avoidable. My clients land within an average of 2 months.

Contact me to avoid all this unnecessary stress.
